CITY OF LAMBERTVILLE ANNOUNCEMENTS
**STREET SWEEPER: will resume the
first full week of April.
LAMBERTVILLE'S ANNUAL 'SPARKLE WEEK' TO RETURN IN MAY
Lambertville's popular annual "Sparkle Week" - where one person's trash becomes another person's treasure - will return during the second and third weeks of May.
Scheduled pick-up dates are:
- Residents whose garbage pick-up day is Tuesday or Wednesday may put items out to the curb for pick up on May 12th and May 13th.
- Residents whose garbage pick-up is Thursday or Friday may put items out to the curb for pick up on May 21st and May 22nd.
Sparkle Week's origins reach back to the 1950's, when Lambertville residents would put out their bulk trash in events dubbed "Operation Sparkle." Over time, Sparkle Week has grown into one of Lambertville's most popular events, with residents and visitors claiming discarded items that may still have usable life.
"Over the course of a half-century, Sparkle Week has grown from being about trash to become one of the area's most anticipated'freecycling' and 'up-cycling' events," said Mayor David DelVecchio. "For many residents, the finds during Sparkle Week rival those at Halloween."
The Mayor noted the City will again partner with Goodwill Industries to pick up and recycle electronics, furniture, and other items in resale condition.
"Our partnership with Goodwill has allowed residents the peace of mind and satisfaction that some of their unneeded items may find a second life in a worthy home that can put that item to use," said Mayor DelVecchio.
In addition, the following rules remain for Sparkle Week and full compliance is required:
- No building construction debris (sheet rock, large pieces of wood, etc),
- No concrete, brick, or block,
- No paints or oils of any kind; these may be taken to Hunterdon County's Hazardous Clean-Up Day on July 11th.
- Limit two car tires per household,
- Brush or tree branches must be separated and bundled,
- Used clothing must be separated.
The public works department will pick up the bulk trash on each household's regularly scheduled pick-up day. Please do not place additional items on the curb once all other garbage has been collected.
